As a former student of both NPS
and NHS what inspired you to
want to come back as a teacher?
I have always been a huge admirer
of this community and really en-
joyed my schooling years at both
the Public and High school.
Even from an early age I wanted
to be a teacher and I think it can
be attributed to the many influen-
tial teachers I had growing up. It’s
through them that I have shaped
the way in which I want to teach.
I feel I have a lot to offer coming
back here as a teacher.
How do you see your previous
practical sessions at other high
schools helping you settle in?
I’ve been pretty lucky throughout
my placements; I had the oppor-
tunity to undertake 2 pracs here
and my last two at schools in South
Sydney. It was good to come back
here first to familiarise myself again
with the school and get a taste of
what it would be like being on the
opposite end of the desk. As for
Sydney I really enjoyed my time
there as I was able to step outside
of my comfort zone and get an in-
dication of what it was like to be at
a much larger school with a wider
diversity of students.
With the school year only a few
weeks old, what have been your
biggest challenges thus far?
I think my greatest challenge at the
moment is trying to stay on top of
things. The first few weeks have
been a bit of a blur but I am defi-
nitely enjoying all the obstacles that
come with being a teacher.
How do you relate to your former
teachers that are still at NHS?
As I said before I have been very
lucky to have quite a few influen-
tial teachers throughout my time at
school. Many of which I remained
in contact with after I left. This has
definitely helped me with my tran-
sition from student to teacher.
As for my old teachers I think most
of them aren’t thinking too much
about the fact that I’m now back
teaching (I think it makes them feel
old).
What are your goals for this year?
I have set myself a few goals this
year, like staying organised and
getting involved in some football
coaching but my main goal com-
ing back here is to motivate my
students and get them looking
forward to coming to school every
day. If I can get students looking
forward to coming to my classes,
then I know I have done my job.
We all need a balance in our lives
so what things do you undertake
to relax?
I agree, I believe balance is impor-
tant in anyone’s life. I have always
been a keen sportsman and relish
any opportunity I can to get out-
side to hit a few golf balls or kick
the footy around. I also just enjoy
spending quality time with the fam-
ily and catching up with friends.
