Relief, a gift,
a privilege;
whichever
way you
look at it, the
educational
scholarships
on offer from
ParaQuad NSW can make such
a dramatic impact on recipients’
lives. Last year, ParaQuad awarded
18 scholarships with a total value
of almost $50,000, to help improve
the employment prospects of
people with a spinal cord injury.
In this issue, two scholarship
recipients share how they are
pursuing their love of art, and how
a scholarship from ParaQuad lifted
the financial burden of studying
what they loved. With both working
towards exhibitions, it is heartening
to know that our organisation
provided assistance to help them
along their artistic journeys.
Chronic pain is experienced
by around 80% of people after a
spinal cord injury, according to Dr
Sylvia Gustin, who invites members
with SCI to take part in research
aimed at unlocking the reasons
for neuropathic pain. Research
volunteer Jason Tumpey, also a
ParaQuad volunteer, tells us what it
was like taking part in the research.
The NDIS core principles
of choice, convenience and
independence are at the heart of
everything we do at ParaQuad and
that will never change. We have
now included these three words in
our redesigned logo to show our
commitment to the continued roll
out of the NDIS and all that the
scheme promises those with a
spinal cord injury, their family and
carers.
With the latest NDIS news,
clinical stories and a feature on one
ParaQuad Attendant Care client,
the ongoing range of services
provided by ParaQuad are on show
this issue.

Anders Halvorsen
