SCOUTS AUSTRALIA

ANNUAL REPORT TO THE NATION 2016

14

Leadership is engaging with others and showing them

they have the ability to achieve things themselves.

It’s “I help you, you help me.”

Clint Caldicott

As a Lones Venturer Scout Clint Caldicott earned his

Queens Scout Award in the small South East Queensland

town of Millmerran. Without a regular Group to meet with,

he succeeded nonetheless, by working with the local

Cub Pack to practise his Leadership skills.

Lord Baden-Powell Report

The Lord Baden-Powell Society was able to help 239

disadvantaged youth members attend AJ2016, an unforgettable

and life-changing experience for many. The Society also

granted $180,000 to Branches to assist them support their

youth members.

The Society is supported by nearly 900 donors. It is through

their generosity that many youth members can participate

in Scouting, who otherwise would not have had the opportunity

to do so. Scouts Australia recognises and thanks all members

of the Lord Baden-Powell Society, many of whom are current

Leaders, for their valuable and continuing support. The

Chairman, David Jones urges all Leaders to consider joining the

Society so it can grow and, in turn, help the youth of tomorrow.

Scoutshop.com.au

The National Association launched its first online store in 2015,

www.scoutshop.com.au.

With operators contracted to run the

store on a day-to-day basis, the National organisation now has

the ability to manage the distribution of specialty Scouting items

based on the purchaser’s membership status.

Scouting Online

Scouts Australia’s investment in online technologies started to

show significant benefits. As well as the continuing success and

expansion of eLearning online training, the adoption of Scout

Central’s online programming is growing quickly.

Over 1,200 formations were using the system as at the end of

March 2016 with growth rates of 66% achieved in six months.

An 80% increase in the use of online programming was recorded

in the six months prior to March 2016 as Leaders formulated the

games, activities and ceremonies on Scout Central into usable

programs. Leaders also recorded an astounding 76,000 badges

completed by youth members in six months.
