The town takes its name from the Coomera River, which in turn takes its name comes from the Yugambeh word kumera, a species of wattle. The bark of this tree was used to stupefy fish. The European settlement of Coomera dates back to the mid-19th century. Timber was a valuable resource, and many settlers established sawmills to take advantage of the area’s rich timber reserves. The Coomera River also became a vital route for transporting timber to nearby Southport. The development of the Coomera railway line in the early 20th century further facilitated trade and transportation, boosting the area’s agricultural prosperity. Dreamworld was officially opened on 15 December 1981 by the Premier of Queensland of the time, Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen. Today, Coomera is a bustling community with a diverse population. Its strategic location between Brisbane and the Gold Coast has made it a hub for commuters and families. Scan the QR code to watch more about Coomera. Suburb Spotlight: Coomera
