Integricare Christian Preschool Auburn
Developing and maintaining strong partnerships with
families and communities is a strong priority for
Integricare Auburn Christian Preschool. The Preschool is
managed by Integricare for the Auburn Baptist Church.
The Preschool is located in a highly multicultural and very
transient population creating a unique and diverse
preschool community. This preschool community is a
melting pot of cultures, yet it demonstrates a strong
sense of community where respect and appreciation for
each other’s individuality is at the forefront.
This sense of community and support was recently
demonstrated when one of our families received an
additional needs diagnosis for their child. Navigating the
minefield of doctors, specialists and therapists is
challenging for families at any time but when you add the
fact that you have no family support, are new to the
country and unfamiliar with the system and its processes,
it is an extremely daunting and terrifying situation. The
Preschool is fortunate to employ an Early Childhood
trained Resource Teacher. While it is this teacher’s role to
support children within the service with additional needs,
in this situation she ‘went the extra mile’ supporting the
family, contacting doctors and specialists, coordinating
meetings and appointments for the family and offering to
attend these meetings as support.
This experience demonstrates that whilst such a diverse
mix of cultures can sometimes make communication a
challenge, the shared bond of wanting the best possible
outcomes for the children has seen the educators,
families and community forge some very strong
relationships; relationships which will benefit us all as we
share experiences and strengthen our acceptance and
understanding of one another on our journey of learning
and discovery!

Sammy is a 4 year old boy diagnosed with autism. When
Mum first brought him to preschool, she was exhausted. She
felt isolated from friends, suffered from lack of sleep and
had a very limited support network. The educators and
additional needs staff at Kinder Kapers worked hard to
make her and Sammy feel at home. Sammy settled well
and began to develop new interests. Support staff
encouraged him to begin developing friendships and to learn
basic signs to communicate. Mum was warmly welcomed each
morning and afternoon, encouraged and supported in her
parenting and given information about further support
agencies.Today Sammy and his Mum love coming to
Integricare Kinder Kapers Preschool and Mum recently
thanked us by saying: “This place is such a blessing. I don’t
know where we would be if we didn’t find you”.
