Making a positive difference

Integricare Children’s Centre Homebush

WONDER OF CHILDREN’S LEARNING.

The research informs us the greatest period of a child’s

learning happens between 0-5 years. What a great

opportunity for the early childhood sector to capture the

child’s developing curiosity and wonder as they explore

and make sense of their world. In addition, we know that

children develop a range of learning dispositions in

environments that are intentionally planned and

implemented to engage and scaffold the burgeoning

development of children.

Stories of children’s learning are written every day in our

centre – which challenges staff to ponder and consider:

what were children thinking, what are they curious

about, what do they want to know, what learning

dispositions are developing?

The wonder of children’s learning is enormously

supported by knowledgeable, informed, and caring staff.

Staff who know how to design and implement learning

environments to foster the individual child’s learning are

integral to the progression of a child’s development and

on-going learning. Just as I delight in observing and

experiencing a child’s learning trajectory, the same can be

applied to experiencing the development and

progression of the team.

The story of the wonder of children’s learning must

acknowledge and respect the input and contribution of a

wonderful and dedicated staff team.

Integricare acknowledges Strathfield Council’s support in

providing this service.

This is to the Educators who see potential instead

of problems.

If it wasn’t for you, I would have been labelled as difficult,

but now I’m seen as diligent.

If it wasn’t for you, they would only have seen my struggles,

but now they see my strengths.

If it wasn’t for you, my passion would have been seen as

an obsession.

If it wasn’t for you, my emotions would have

overwhelmed me.

You were security when I was flailing, comfort when I

was down.

You were welcoming when I felt rejected, and loving when

my behaviour was unlovely.

You showed me that mess is wonderful, and creativity

is freedom.

You showed me that learning can be fun, when we

play together.

When I needed a challenge, you helped me grow.

Teaching me things, which I hadn’t known.

For these reasons, and so many more,

My life is now a better place, because you were in it.

Thank you.
