LEADER OF THE PACK: BARRY SHEENE’S OWN

STORY by Barry Sheene. Published 1983.

A big sign in Barry’s Sheene’s office proclaimed, “Today is the

first day of the rest of my life”, an expression he lived by. Barry

was the first motorcycling millionaire. His character was of a

passionate enthusiasm for life; whatever the bruises it might

inflict, family loyalty and a certain devil-may-care

swashbuckling style all pointed to a nonconformist hero.

The book is a lively read of Barry’s rise from humble

beginnings, through his periods of part time rider, full time

mechanic, riding in a work’s team, to being a great

entrepreneur who also later entertained us with his television

commentating of bike and V8 Supercar racing.

The book has 16 pages of black and white photos.

Well worth a read!

More About the Dev Dvoretsky Books

In the March issue of

Vintage Metal

, I reviewed the book of Russell Brockbank cartoons that

has recently arrived in the VSCC library. Life member John Keenan has emailed me with the

following letter that explains how the books from the Dvoretsky collection came to be

donated to the club.

Dear Bob, great edition of Vintage Metal again.

For your info.

You wrote about the Brockbank Grand Prix book from the library.

The 5 or 6 boxes of books donated to the Club library came from me.

I know the executor of Dev's widow's estate, who was cleaning out all of Dev's old stuff, and

grabbed the books for the Club with the executor's permission.

I gave them all to Ian Fry to pass on to the Club.

Glad they are getting to be used. The Club library is a great resource which could perhaps be

promoted in a future edition of the magazine.

One of the benefits of membership!

Kind regards, John Keenan, Life Member.

CAMS Scrutineers Checklist

CAMS has produced and sanctioned a standardised version of the Scrutineers Checklist for

all competition events in WA.

It is printed over pages 11 and 12, pages that back on to each other so that you can cut the

sheet out of the magazine and file it. Of course you can copy the pages if you want to keep

your magazine complete.

Any members who competes or intend to compete should read the checklist carefully as it

provides a detailed guide to what scrutineers will be looking for.
