VSCC Member Graham Lloyd passed away at 5 am on the
morning of the 16th of February after a brave fight from
prostate cancer that turned into bone cancer. He was known
for his Porsche Cup racing in a very quick 944 Turbo. He
also competed in the London to Sydney Rally, Targa
Tasmania, Classic Adelaide and African Shield events in his
beloved 968 and 911 RSR Porsches.
Graham had built a 1954 HWM open wheeler Grand Prix
replica with a Jaguar Motor by Allan Shepherd. This
stunning car competed for the past 5 years in the VSCC around the Houses and at
Barbagallo Raceway.
A Doctor of Metallurgy from Sydney University, Graham moved to Perth with his wife
Penny and worked for BHP in the Metallurgy Department. Graham started his metallurgy
business Amertec in Balcatta in the seventies and was to grow to be a world leader in this
field. As a long time holiday resident of Augusta and, not satisfied with this business in
Balcatta, Graham started a large vineyard in Witchcliffe. The 24 Karat vineyard proved
very successful supplying grapes to large wineries.
Graham was a very friendly fellow and an absolutely generous gentleman. Sandra and I
knew the Lloyd family from kindergarten time through to my son and his daughter’s
wedding and doted on the five grandchildren from the two daughters. Over the years many
a great family meal was shared, always with some of his great wines. Graham's favourite
was a sparkling Shiraz from South Australia called The Doctor - very apt.
Will miss our close family friendship and the VSCC motor racing especially the Northam
and Albany weekends and the Reds afterwards.
From Paul Wilkins.
