From the President

I have just returned from a driving holiday, which Jen and I

thoroughly enjoyed, across Australia. While driving between

Norseman and Eucla I was reminded that several of our Club

members would be travelling the same road to Phillip Island for the

historic events and others to Launceston to compete in Targa

Tasmania. Later in the year cars from the Eastern States, New Zealand

and overseas will be crossing in the opposite direction for the

Shannon’s Perth Classic, in October, which is part of the international

Diamond Jubilee celebrations for Formula Junior. Following that, a contingent of 12 FJ cars

and drivers (most are VSCC members) will be travelling east to race at Sandown and Sydney

then on to the international races in America and Europe. Thinking about all this made me

realize how much Western Australian historic motor sport has grown and how much the

VSCC has contributed to that growth both here, in the East and across the Tasman.

I hope members have noticed the improvement in the Vintage Metal since Editor Bob

Campbell took over the reins. He is doing a wonderful job but needs contributions from

you; it would be great to have more articles about individual members who have led

interesting lives, have unusual restoration stories to share or have amazing car collections.

(See Mark Duder's story in the March edition.)

Bob will also be happy to publish “letters to the editor” regarding issues the Management

and Competition Committees are grappling with, such as receiving the VM in electronic

form or the controversial eligibility criteria for invited cars that don’t meet the category five

rules but wish to enter our events. You may have ideas for the 30th anniversary celebrations

that you would like to share.

I hope to catch up with you all at the Northam Motor Sport Festival. The combined efforts

of the Northam team, headed by Randle Beavis, and the VSCC promise an action-packed

two day event.

Keep safe.

Rob Ozanne
