COMPETITION COMMITTEE UPDATE
Members, this is the first of what I hope will be a regular segment in the Vintage Metal, to
give a brief update of competition matters effecting members of our club.
For those of you who were unable to attend, the Albany Classic was run last weekend and
was a resounding success. Thanks go to Ross and Lynn Oxwell and the Albany Committee
and track-builders for their tireless input into organising a fantastic event. Peter Harrold, the
incoming VSCC organising committee chairperson, will take over an event that is in good
shape. Dick Ward is to be congratulated on setting another sub 30 seconds track record for
the Mt Clarence hillclimb.
Planning works is underway for the upcoming events at Collie and Goomalling. Brad Peters
and Steve Boyle have taken on the role of organising committee for the Coalfields 500. The
event will be for both race and regularity competitors run over a two day weekend on
October 1 & 2. The Goomalling Sprints will be organised by the same team that ran
Northam with Randle Bevis as the chairperson. The sprints are to be held on Saturday
October 15.
A major topic for discussion at recent Competition meetings has been around vehicle
eligibility for the regularity events run by the VSCC. A sub-committee has been formed
consisting of Steve Boyle, Rob Ozanne, Robbie Rhoades, Peter Harrold, Brad Peters and Paul
Bartlett. If you have any comments can you please approach any of these guys so that we can
capture a good cross section of club thoughts on this matter.
We need to remind members involved in VSCC competitions, that the VSCC Standing
Regulations – Section 10 Logbooks, notes that to score points in a round of regularity
championship you need a CAMS or VSCC logbook for your vehicle. You will hear more
about logbooks later in the year as we develop the plan to address the topic of vehicle
eligibility.
The CAMS State Council meeting was held on June 2, and although Ed Farrar and I were
not able to attend, I understand from David Moir there were no contentious matters
discussed. All members can keep themselves up to speed with matters concerning the
CAMS State Council by accessing the following website:

A bit more information, further to founding of the Club:
August 1986, Bob Avery and myself were involved in attending the meeting at Peter Briggs
garage and the Cottesloe Civic Centre meetings, we were "back row" persons in photos!
Bob and I were involved with CAMS at that time.
Your words in June issue of Vintage Metal, on the Repco Hi Power Cylinder Head for
Holdens, from memory Terry Le May had the 1st one into WA, I the 2nd, which went on to
my Holden FJ "Touring Car" for races at Caversham circuit.
Regards,
Dick Roberts
