Dad's Army News

The first thing to mention is the Dad’s Army Christmas Show. If you intend to go please let

Graeme Whitehead know before Thursday December 1. There’s still time if you hurry.

Graeme is available by telephone on 08 9279 1061 or on his mobile, 0412 919 370.

The cost is $15 per head unless you have attended at least one Dad’s Army work day or

workshop Saturday when you can come for nothing. That’s right. Dad’s Army people are

free, all others $15. And get your money to Graeme so

that he doesn’t have to chase you.

In the meantime, Dad’s Army has been busy keeping

the clubrooms and grounds clean and tidy and

improving the security of the buildings.

All of the external doors to the buildings have been

reinforced so that it would take a very determined thief

to get in, and other measures would make it most

unpleasant for the thief once inside.

The 25th of October saw a good turnout of Dad’s

Army volunteers to clear up the grounds. Phil

Bolden ran over almost every corner of the block

with the ride-on mower (pictured right) and caused

some panicked movement of cars from the firing

line as the big mower threw rocks, twigs and more

across the parking areas.

The tighter spots were mowed by Bruce Jones with

the push mower (above).

In the meantime, Denny Cunnold and Mark Duder

were cleaning up the vast quantity of leaves and

other detritus that had built up under the trees,

assisted by the editor (after he took their photograph at

left) and others.

On Saturday the fifth of November a select group of

Dad’s Army gathered to work on the Caversham Car,

which is creeping closer to completion.

Denny worked on getting the bodywork symmetrical,

Wally Phoebe worked on the electricals and, among all

the other activity, the engine was fired up for the first

time in the car.

Unfortunately,

it began to pump out water, so the engine was

stopped and the head-scratching began.

Ron Fabry grabbed a good job, which saw him

sitting in the car while the mirrors were installed.

In this last Vintage Metal for 2016, we (that’s Dad’s

Army) would like to thank Graeme Whitehead and

Terry Le May for the excellent morning teas they

have supplied all year, keeping the inner man

sustained while we solved the troubles of the world .
