N

sta Night Comps are going well with

267 players participating in NC#2

this year, compared to 201 players in

NC#2 in 2015. 2015 saw a total of 870

taking part, compared to 761 in 2014, so

the Committee is keen to build on these

numbers.

Monday Pairs is very popular, the for-

mat for which is 3 x 8 game sets played

in 1.5 hours. 1st is Best (

Trent Mackie,

Gavin Long

and

Steve Whyte

) have had

a monopoly on Div 1, but recently have

been challenged by Springwater II (

Gra-

ham Spring, Peter Cody

and

Warwick

Lynch

). After having repeatedly won Div

2 (the ‘mixed’ division) Team DD (

Doris

and

Dennis Teoh

) were promoted to Div

1 where they challenged 1st is Best for

the title in NC#1.

Tuesday Mixed plays 6 sets between 2

men and 2 ladies on 2 courts. Terranova

(

Dave Brown, Rob Laidlaw, Karine Eu-

vrard

and

Tania Duffy

) upset The Dys-

functional (

Dave Keogh, Gary Nadjar-

ian, Suzi Litchfield

and

Jennifer Lin

) in

the final of NC#1 but The Dysfunctionals

redeemed themselves in NC#2.

Tuesday Mixed is competitve on court

but very social off court and we would

love to hear of any teams that would be

keen to take part. (Contact the NSTA

sue@nsta.com.au

or 9436 2729).

To fill some vacant courts on Tuesday

nights, we started a singles comp, which

has become extremely popular. Players

play 3 sets (despite the outcome after

the first 2) in 2 hours and the comp has

gone from strength to strength, needing

4 divisions in NC#2. NC#1 saw

Andrew

Martin

defeat

Andrew Davies

in Div 1,

TJ Rangarajan

defeated

Marko Marelic

Div 2, and

Keith Shum

defeated

Ben

Gavazzi

Div 3. NC#2 saw Div 1 go to

Damon Schoonbergen

over

Andrew

Davies

, Div 2

Yarden Turner

defeated

Nick Coles

, Div 3

Peter McNamara

de-

feated

Kenneth Gan

and in Div 4 J

oe

Borg

defeated

Richard Frykberg.

Wednesday nights is Triples which

in NC#2 has consisted of singles and

doubles - one player plays singles on

one court while the other 2 players play

doubles on a second court. Each player

then gets one set of singles and 2 sets of

doubles, with no off court time.

Killara Lawn has dominated Div 1 with

Killara Lawn 1 (

Mariano Kulish, Rory

McLean

and

Mark Sheridan

) taking

out NC#1 and Killara Lawn 3 (

Warwick

Keneally, Wayne Fourie

and

Ian Brea-

ley

) winning in NC#2. It must be noted

however, that Triple Hoarse (

Adrian

Cachia, Simon Kolbasko

and

Erik La

Hei

) topped the pointscores in NC#2 but

unfortunately fell at the first hurdle ... but

well done boys, it was a big improvement

on NC#1!!

The upgrading of the lights and resur-

facing of courts 7 and 8 by Willoughby

Council at Tennis Valley has been ex-

tremely well received by the players and

at last the facilities are worthy of this

strong and popular competition.
