hanging the dates of the North Shore

Open Platinum Australian Money

Tournament was very well received by

our Sponsor, Guardian Funerals, and the

players, and seemed to be the key to this

year’s event being heralded as ‘the best yet’.

The 2016 Guardian Funerals North

Shore Open was held over the Easter

long weekend, Thursday 24th - Monday

28th March, instead of the week prior to

Christmas, as in previous years. Players

came from near and far ... Great Britain,

France, Italy, Japan, China, as well as

Victoria, Western Australia, Queensland

and Tasmania. 247 players participated in

all, with 118 men entering the Open Mens

Singles and 82 ladies entering the Open

Womens Singles. Top seed in the Open

Mens Singles was Dayne Kelly (Victoria),

ranked 23 in Australia, and top seed in the

Open Womens Singles was Sherazad Reix

(France) with a WTA ranking of 240.

A new initiative into the NSO this year was

rewarding those who played through the

qualifying to the main draw, with $150 each.

Finals day on Monday 28th at Talus Street

had a air of excitement and fun, as matches

got under way. Former Tennis Valley

member and NSTA junior,

Max Purcell,

ranked 37 in Australia, displayed fantastic

form througout the tournament to take the

Open Mens Singles title from his doubles

partner,

Jake Delaney

. The final of the

Open Womens Singles was an international

affair with second seeded

Katy Dunne

(Great Bratain) defeating the No. 1 seed from

France,

Sherazad Reix

.

As well as outstanding tennis in the

opens finals, we were also treated to some

wonderful matches in grade events, and in

particular the A grade Mens Singles won by

Georgijie Babic

over

Corey Gaal

6-7 6-2

15-13.

We were very fortunate to welcome to the

Presentations

Rosemary Harris

(Guardian

Funerals),

James Bennett

(Belle Property

Lane Cove),

Stephen Healy

(President

Tennis Australia) and

Gail Giles-Gidney

(Mayor of Willoughby).
