CHALLENGES
W
e have had two very successful
Primary Schools Challenges in
Terms 1 and 2 this year, with 430 players
from 37 schools taking part in Term 1
and 386 players from 36 schools taking
part in Term 2.
Congratulations to
Artarmon
and
Cammeray
who came equal first,
in Term 1 and to
West Pymble
and
Queenwood
who came equal 3rd.
Our Term 2 Challenge saw
Greenwich
as our overall winning team,
with
Lane Cove
2nd and
Neutral Bay
3rd.
We have been fortunate with the
weather for our Primary Schools
Challenges so far this year, commencing
each Challenge at 5.30pm on a Saturday
evening, and generally having everyone
finished their round robin pools by
8-8.30pm.
Artarmon has hugely increased its
participation, thanks to
Leroy Sze
’s
mum,
Sarah.
She has put in a huge
effort to recruit players and it is great to
see them benefitting from the exerpience
and having fun. Other schools with
wonderful participation have been
Northbridge, Gordon West, St. Ives
North, Newington, Netural Bay, Mosman
Prep and Beauty Point. We greatly
appreciate the effort all schools have put
into recruiting players and we sincerely
thanks those teachers, parents and/or
coaches who organise teams on behalf
of their schools.
Venues which have been used for our
Challenges so far this year are Abuklea
Road, Kooroora, Forestville, Tennis
Valley, Wheatleigh Street and Talus
Street. We sincerely thank those clubs
and operators for making their centres
available to us.
Also, there are a number of people
to thank for helping supervise venues
durng each event:
Rhonda Purvis,
Elizabeth Chappel, Ian Chappel,
Sandy Davoren, Terry Davoren,
Troy Delmege, Tony Reynolds, John
O’Leary, Sue Woodward, Carol
Langsford
and
Garry Delmege
. We
are most grateful to these volunteers for
their assistance, and to the parents who
readily help out on the night supervisiig
courts.
These Challenges are hugely
important to our Association as they
introduce young players to competition
and representative play, and if the
experience is a happy one, the players
are then keen to become involved in
other competitions and events.
