MESSAGE FROM THE PRIME MINISTER
MACEDONIAN CULTURALAND ARTISTIC ASSOCIATION,
ILINDEN 50TH ANNIVERSARY
Congratulations on the 50th anniversary of the Macedonian Cultural and Artistic
Association, Ilinden.
For hundreds of years, the Macedonian people have celebrated the strength and spirit of
their community, culture and history through expressive dance.
Passed from generation to generation, vibrant folkloric dances – together with traditional
costumes, folk instruments and music – have proudly defined a sense of who the Macedo-
nian people are, how they see the world, and how the world sees them in turn.
In that spirit, Ilinden carries forth the diverse Macedonian dance traditions, and endeav-
ours to share their beauty and passion with a wider audience.
Cultural diversity is an intrinsic part of Australian society and a unifying force for our
nation. On this special anniversary, I thank all those–past and present – who have made
Ilinden such a loved and enduring part of Australia’s cultural landscape.
I hope its performances continue to uplift and enrich participants and audiences for many
years to come.
