At OLMC the Pastoral Care

Program aims to create a safe

and supportive environment

in which the students can

develop strong relationships

between their peers and

teachers. Student safety and

wellbeing are important to

assist the students to feel

connected and confident in

their learning experiences at

school. EachYear Coordinator

has developed a series of themed assemblies, which

aim to provide relevant age specific activities to

support the student’s physical, social and emotional

wellbeing.

During their fortnightly assemblies, Year 7 have

focused on settling in to high school, establishing and

maintaining good friendships, staying safe online, being

resilient and managing stress.Year 8 has looked at self-

esteem, social interaction, resilience, positive self-talk

and communication in relationships.Year 9 has focused

on goal setting, study skills, peer communication and

friendships, conflict resolution and leadership.Year 10

have been looking at planning ahead with careers and

subject selections forYear 11, goal setting, maintaining

good mental health and wellbeing and positive self-

esteem.

As a school we have participated in The National Day

of Action against bullying and violence and RUOK Day

by organising a variety of activities to raise awareness.

Our College also hosted a range of guest speakers

including the AFP on Cyber Crime Prevention, Paul

Dillon on Adolescents coping with drugs and alcohol

and Headspace and Batyr on mental health and young

people. We also participated in the Youth Frontiers

community mentoring program, which gave students

the confidence to develop a community project and

develop teamwork and leadership skills.

Our aim for 2016 is to continue to provide a relevant

and meaningful Pastoral Program to students, which

is supported by a strong network of Homeroom

teachers through the introduction of a Vertical

Homeroom structure. We will also continue our

interaction and liaison with DLS Caringbah and

Cronulla.
