From the President
Over 80 members attended the February general meeting, our first
for 2016. Congratulations to the winners of the perpetual and
competition trophies. The applause and good- natured heckling as the
presentations were made was an indication of the wonderful
camaraderie in our club.
Larry Coyle had his historic T.Q. race car on display and entertained
us with the frustrations and rewards involved in researching its
history, finding original parts and finally completing the restoration.
The meeting finished with a great supper provided by Ed and Cris
Farrar.
Craig Bradke, our Social Director, has organized to have two historic cars on display at the
March general meeting and the proud owners will give a talk on the special significance of
their vehicles.
Northam is the first of our major events for 2016 and the preparations are well underway,
thanks to the efforts of the Northam Crew and our Competition Committee. The co-
operation between these two groups has been exceptional. It’s worth remembering that four
of our five events are held in the country and their success is due to the great working
relationships we have with our country members.
The Management Committee is making improvements to the Club’s management and
operational procedures. The upgrading of our computer systems and our data base has been
a major priority and the first steps towards achieving this will be a workshop in early March.
Our plan is to trial a new system at the Vintage Stampede. The Club’s website has been
brought up to date and is operational, thanks to David Moir.
On a more serious note; we live in an age where people who have a grievance can vent their
frustrations and anger on social media and whether you agree or not it is their right to do so.
However, readers of what can be very malicious and slanderous material have difficulty in
determining whether the writer is representing their personal views or the views of a group,
organization or club to which they belong. By association, the writer of such material could
damage the reputation of the group, causing unnecessary antagonism with others and
making it difficult to develop co-operative working relationships with them. The only official
spokespersons of the VSCC are the members of the Management Committee.
If you are tempted to use social media in this way think of the possible ramifications of your
actions. CAMS have a social media policy which is published in this magazine.
I look forward to catching up with you at the March Meeting.
