DAVID MYERS – BARANG INTERIM CHAIRPERSON
On 11 August 2016, Barang Regional
Alliance Ltd. officially appointed an
interim Chairperson, David Myers.
David held the position as Chairperson
until the Annual General Meeting on
3 November 2016.
David brought with him a strong
background in finance and management
and highly developed business acumen,
along with a lifetime of experience.
David believes it is necessary to bind
each of the seven Barang member
organisations together, encouraging
collaboration and common goals with
transparency in all actions, a clear
direction, good corporate governance
and an understanding of each member.
David has contributed greatly towards
the appointment of the Chief Executive
Officer of Barang and has attended
various meetings with the Department
of Aboriginal Affairs and the NSW
Department of Premier and Cabinet to

negotiate our Regional Accord and State
Funding agreement.
The board would like to acknowledge
and thank David for the work he put into
this role and his contribution to Barang.
David will continue his involvement with
Barang as the member’s representative
for Mingaletta.

YERIN – COLLABORATION FOR A BETTER FUTURE
Yerin continues to strive towards
better holistic health for Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander people residing
on the Central Coast – Darkinjung
country. Yerin’s focus is on enabling
community-led models to empower
people to manage their wellbeing.
They are committed to collaboration
throughout the Central Coast to
strengthen healthcare service delivery
and to address the real and diverse health
needs of their community. In addition,
Yerin continues to foster new partnerships
that further increase the capacity to
deliver, integrate and coordinate services
that improve culturally appropriate
access.
In 12 months, Yerin has provisioned new
services including a range of health care
experts such as Dr Arun Maji (additional
General Practitioner), Dr Tony Gill
(Addiction Specialist) and Dr Ritu Datta
(additional Pediatrician).
New intake systems between programs
and clinical services as well as partner
services have also been created, which
strengthens collaboration by providing a
more integrated and responsive service
to their registered clients.
An example of this is Yerin’s Dhanggan
Gudjagang Team (Maternal, Child
and Family Program) partnership with
Nunyara (Aboriginal Health Unit) to
work closely with their GPs, Midwife,
Early Childhood Nurse and Aboriginal
Family Health Workers. This collaboration
ensures consistency and comfort for their
patients, jointly providing:

Early childhood education and care
•
Antenatal care and postnatal care
•
Parenting and family support services
•
Early learning, personal, social and
educational development
Jamie Wheeler, Team Leader for

Emotional Well Being (SEWB) teams
at Yerin, strive to “empower people to
intrinsically better themselves.”
Justin Toomey-White, Drug and Alcohol
Support Worker and Aboriginal Health
Practitioner at Yerin, says, “The issues
facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander health are not going away
anytime soon, but I am one more person
out there to help our community and
contribute to the change. Seeing clients
doing well makes you want to come to
work every day.”
