Induction Guide | New Employee 31

Development framework

Development streams

At Bupa Aged Care Australia our learning and development initiatives and programs are contained

within 6 streams:

Induction

(learning about Bupa, your workplace, your role and other general information)

Systems

(key systems you will be using and operating at your workplace)

Role specific

(your specific role which is not clinical in nature)

Clinical

(the clinical capability associated with your role)

Leadership

(leadership skills and activities)

Interpersonal and Professional skills

development (content related to other critical skills areas

such as communication, time management, presentation skills etc).

Your Induction checklists will specify what type of training you will need to undertake at different

stages of your Ignite journey.

Development approach

Development programs follow a best practice learning approach where content is delivered through

a combination of Education, Experience and Exposure activities.

On the job role training (Buddy shifts)

During your first week at the home you will be assigned a Buddy who will partner with you during

your first two to three days on the job (this may vary depending on your needs and experience). Your

buddy will be primarily responsible for conducting on the job training which we call ‘Buddy Shifts’.

They will also offer advice and guidance regarding the day-to-day aspects of working at Bupa Aged

Care and help introduce you to Bupa’s culture.

During your buddy shifts you will be assessed on key activities until you are ready to work

independently.

Classroom education sessions

Each home has an active education calendar, which involves employee training being made available

on a regular basis. Sessions are delivered either by a Bupa Aged Care employee or by an external

provider. Education calendars are posted in team corridors or team rooms. Sessions may be

compulsory or voluntary. They can last from 30 minutes to two hours.

What you are required or offered to attend will depend on your role.

These sessions are a great way to continue your personal and professional development so make the

most out of them.
