THE NSW STRONGER COMMUNITIES FUND

The Stronger Communities Fund has been established by the

NSW Government to provide councils with funding to kick start

the delivery of projects that improve community infrastructure

and services.The Stronger Communities Fund includes both the

Community Grants and Major Projects Programs.

AVAILABLE FUNDING

Funding of $10 million is provided to a new council formed as a result of

two councils, or parts of two councils, merging.

Funding of $15 million is provided to a new council formed as a result of

three or more councils, or parts of three or more councils, merging.

Funds will be provided to councils after commencement.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTING PROJECTS

Councils will be required to ensure that the community and local

stakeholders are adequately consulted and provided with the opportunity to

put forward ideas for funding.

COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM CRITERIA

Councils are to provide grants to incorporated not-for-profit community groups

for projects identified and assessed using an open call for applications.

To be successful for funding, community projects must meet the following criteria:

• Deliver social, cultural, economic or environmental benefits to local

communities

• Address an identified community priority

• Be well defined with a clear budget

• Demonstrate that any ongoing or recurrent costs of the project can be met by

the community group once grant funding has been expensed

• The organisation must demonstrate the capacity to manage funds and deliver the

project.

2017 AUSTRALIA DAY AWARDS NOMINATIONS

Georges River Council is calling on the community to nominate its unsung local heroes

for three prestigious 2017 Australia Day Awards.

Council will announce the winners of the ‘Citizen of theYear’,‘Young Citizen of theYear’

and ‘Young Sportsperson of theYear’ awards at its annual Australia Day Event at Carss Bush

Park on Thursday 26 January, 2017.

The Australia Day awards are an opportunity to recognise those individuals who invest

significant time and expertise into the community through volunteer, professional work and

studies and through outstanding contributions on the sporting field.
