GP Oncology Education Evenings

GP Oncology Education Evenings provide

General Practitioners (GPs) with the

opportunity to learn about the role of

radiation therapy for their patients from

the team on site in a centre close to them.

The first education evening was held in

October 2014 at Westmead Hospital

in Sydney and since then, around 20

departments across Australia and New

Zealand have hosted these sessions.

Hundreds of GPs have attended the events

and reported that the session significantly

improved their understanding of radiation

therapy and that they would recommend

the session to their colleagues. We would

like to sincerely thank everyone who has

been involved in organising these events

which have proved to be very popular

among practice staff members as well.

Macquarie University Hospital, Mater

Private Hospital Springfield, and Genesis

Cancer Care Shenton House in Australia

and Wellington Hospital in New Zealand

hosted successful GP Oncology Education

Evenings in the first quarter of the year.

All attendees thought highly of the event,

which has improved their knowledge of

radiation therapy, and would recommend

it to their colleagues. Five GP evenings are

already confirmed for 2016, while a further

five sites have expressed interest in hosting

such an evening but are yet to confirm

a date.

We would like to thank our members and

the teams from those sites for organising

these events.
