practice

This document sets out for members

the standards of practice the College

has set for radiologists and radiology

practices to support the delivery of safe,

high-quality diagnostic imaging and

interventional radiology services in both

private and public hospital settings.

The Standards provide members with a

quality management framework in which

to establish and maintain continuous

quality improvement in their practices

and mitigate risk.

The Standards also provide a reference

point for the College to influence the

development of the Diagnostic Imaging

Accreditation Scheme (DIAS).

Version 10.1 of the RANZCR Standards

provides amendments to Standard

13.2.1 Diagnostic Mammography

Equipment to remove the word

‘monochrome’ so as to not exclude

the use of colour monitors in

mammography and to reflect recent

evidence demonstrating colour

mammography monitors meet the

technical and diagnostic requirements

for mammography reporting.

Feedback and suggestions for

improvements are welcome and can

be directed to Daisy Garling, Senior

Projects Officer, Quality and Standards

via

‘Appropriateness’ is a hot topic in relation to medical

imaging. In essence, it is about providing the right test

or procedure to the right person at the right time in

a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner. It is about

the patient, and sometimes the community in general,

receiving a net health benefit from the procedure.
