RANZCR/ACR
Educational Courses
“Absolutely fantastic, very clinically relevant and effective learning”
Inaugural RANZCR/ACR Educational Courses are met with rave reviews.
In early July, the College in partnership
with the American College of
Radiology (ACR) hosted some inaugural
educational courses on High Resolution
CT of the Chest (HRCT) and Emergency
Radiology at the Amora Jamison Hotel,
Sydney, Australia. These intensive,
hands-on three-day courses were
delivered on individual workstations
that emulate a clinical environment. An
active, customised learning experience
was provided via the ACR Case Engine
and an expansive repository of cases/
data sets. Both courses had case-by-
case feedback provided by renowned
course directors from the US.
Registrations were advertised to
radiology members in mid-January, with
a large number of registrations received
within the first 48 hours. The launch of
the RANZCR/ACR education offering
was met with such unprecedented
demand that a second HRCT Course
was offered to the members to run
concurrently with the Emergency
Radiology course.
The HRCT course was led by course
directors Jeffrey Kanne, MD, FCCP,
and Gerald F. Abbott, MD, FACR,
and is designed to provide practising
radiologists with the skills and
understanding necessary to interpret
high resolution CT of the chest in diffuse
infiltrative lung diseases.
Developed in conjunction with the
American Society of Emergency
Radiology, the Emergency Radiology
course is designed to provide the
practising radiologist an intensive
hands-on experience in imaging
interpretation of traumatic and non-
traumatic emergencies. This course was
led by Jorge Soto, MD and O. Clark
West, MD, FACR.
The feedback received by
the course participants was
overwhelmingly positive.
“Exceptional course; superbly
organised”
“Excellent moderators and cases.
Learned a lot.”
“It has been one of the best
(courses) I have ever attended.”
100% of the participants
indicated they would register
to attend another course in the
future and would recommend a
colleague to attend a RANZCR/
ACR Education Centre Course.
The College would like to thank EIZO
and Fujifilm Australia for assisting in the
delivery of these courses to its members.
EIZO provided the Radiforce RX850
Diagnostic monitors and ColorEdge
CG277 monitors for the participants
to use review the cases, while Fujifilm
Australia provide the technical and
application training assistance via
application specialist support to ensure
course participants got the most out of
hands-on interpretation of related cases
using Synapse PACS.
Additionally, the College would like to
extend a heartfelt thank you to the ACR
Education Centre teaching faculty and
its operations team, Mr Vinay Sandhir
and Ms Kerri Waldren for their time,
effort and investment in ensuring the
success of these inaugural courses for
our College members.
If you missed out on attending one
of these exceptional courses in 2016,
the good news is there will be an
opportunity for you to attend next
year. Based on the positive feedback
for this year’s offerings, the College
in conjunction with ACR is currently
investigating the prospect of hosting
several courses during August 2017.
While the modalities and Faculty are
yet to be finalised, potential course
topics that may be on offer include
Neuroradiology, MSK, Body and Pelvic
MR and additional HRCT.
More courses coming in 2017. To
