MATHEMATICS REPORT
Any Maths teacher can tell
you that the most common
response adults have to
learning what we do is, “Oh
I hated Maths.” Four words
- so much meaning; not least,
that Maths was something
they did at school and were
glad to leave behind.
However, for those who
have had their eyes opened
to the fine Mathematical precision in everything we
see and do, each curve, every line and all the colours
of the rainbow are rates of change, relationships and
ratios. In 2015, the number of students selecting the
more challenging Mathematics options at Yr 11, our
NAPLAN Numeracy results and above all the way we
now have OLMC girls discussing and arguing about
Mathematics in our classrooms, is evidence of this
Faculty’s determination that our students recognise
and understand the Mathematical description of the
world in which they live.
The 2015 Mathematics Report would not be
complete without a fond farewell to a number of staff.
Mr Dawson, whose good-natured care and teaching
benefitted generations of students. Mrs Harte,
whose passion and talent will remain a shining thread
through our program and processes for years to
come. Mrs Bell, whose dedication and humour turned
around many students who might have given up on
Mathematics. Mrs Rilkovski, whose time with us was
short but sweet and Mr Abi-Elias and his jovial Mercy
Spirit.Wewish these colleagues well in the years to
come.
