CREATIVE AND PERFORMING ARTS REPORT

2015 was another exciting

year in the Creative and

Performing Arts Faculty!

Innovations included the

formation of our Chamber

Group (who performed

beautifully at a number of

events) and the participation

of our musicians and choir in

the Youth Ministry Project.

For this project, OLMC

Music students composed

and recorded a new hymn, Blessed are the Merciful,

which will be featured at many events in 2016 - the

“Year of Mercy”.

Another highlight of 2015 was the Combined

Performing Arts Evening held at De La Salle College,

Caringbah, which featured great performances

from our Choir, Vocal Ensemble, Dance Troupe and

Year 10 Drama, as well as the Combined Band and

instrumental and vocal soloists. Other special events

at which our students shone included the Mother-

Daughter Dinner, Stations of the Cross, Dance

Network Concert, Bandfest, Presentation Day, Open

Night, Assemblies, Masses and the Anzac Dawn

Service.

In the Music classroom, students developed their

expertise in solo and ensemble work on keyboards,

guitar and drums. Year 7 also enjoyed an enriching

Polynesian music incursion while Elective students

honed their composition techniques in workshops

with Philippe Marc.

In Visual Arts, Year 7 and 8 students experimented

with a variety of media to create interpretations of

their environment as well as striking self-portraits.

Year 9 and 10 created sophisticated drawings,

paintings and sculptures - a selection of which were

displayed in the OLMC-De La Salle Combined Art

Exhibition. Elective classes also thoroughly enjoyed

their excursion to the Archibald Prize Exhibition.

Drama

students

demonstrated

excellent

understanding of a variety of genres - from slapstick

to Shakespearean tragedy - and benefitted from a

three-school workshop in physical theatre and group

play-building. Year 10 delighted audiences with their

clever adaptations of Macbeth and their lunchtime

Street Theatre comedy performances.

I thank the talented CAPA team - Mrs Alex Chapman,

Mrs Alison Kritzler, Mrs Anne-Maree Corby and Mrs

Joanna McKeown for all their work and congratulate

our students on their achievements this year.
