2015 was a dynamic year for

PDHPE at OLMC, which saw

students involved in a range

of activities that encouraged

and supported general

health and wellbeing. Physical

activity plays an important

role in determining health

status and improving quality

of life. Throughout 2015,

students in PDHPE and

PASS classes explored health

issues which included drug and alcohol awareness, risk

taking, growth/development, relationships, nutrition

and mental health.

Across the year students participated in a variety

of learning experiences that enriched their

knowledge and appreciation for health and physical

activity. Students in year seven and nine engaged in

drama based productions that promoted positive

relationships and highlighted the dangers and

consequences of risk taking behaviours. Students in

year eight took part in the annual outdoor education

day demonstrating excellent teamwork and problem

solving. While year ten students completed their final

lifesaving program at OLMC, with many achieving

the prestigious Bronze Medallion award. Additional

movement opportunities were extended to Physical

activity and sport studies (PASS) students in year nine

and ten, who participated in a wheelchair basketball

showcase. Students explored the challenges of playing

sport in wheelchairs developing a greater appreciation

for athletes who compete with disabilities. These

students also engaged in martial arts, rugby league

personal development, health and physical

education REPORT

clinics and dance programs with expert instructors

and year nine students attended the annual three day

camp at Narrabeen.

A special thank you to the PDHPE staff for their

tireless efforts again this year. PDHPE teachers in

2015 were: Janine Janssen, KimTregoning, Joanne King,

Alison Redman, Jane Maldigri and Karen Mcnamara.
