The social group has been busy
visiting many fun and interesting
venues throughout Newcastle
including the Museum, Art Gallery
and Maritime Museum as well taking
part in the social activities of lawn
bowls, pool and ten pin bowling.
The Newcastle Museum was
certainly a hit with the T.Rex
Dinosaur Exhibition proving to be
both fun and educational with its
dramatic display of fossils and casts
providing a window into the world
of dinosaurs. A fully immersive
multimedia experience was had,
with large-scale projections of
dinosaurs and the use of multi-touch
technologies.
Our visit to the Newcastle Art
Gallery was also a great day out with
the quirky MAMBO exhibition gaining
the most attention with various
colourful prints, posters, surfboards
and ceramics of the recognisable
and iconic design brand.
Another popular day out was
our visit to the Newcastle Maritime
Museum where we explored and
reviewed the city’s maritime history
over the past forty years through
a combination of collected items,
documentation and audio-visual
media. This included such items as
personal property salvaged from
shipwrecks buried off Newcastle’s
coast, to the viewing of the
impressive dimensions of historic
lifeboat ‘Victoria’ as part of the
‘Wrecks and Rescues’ Theatre
show. A few laughs were also
shared by participating in a friendly
ad-hoc treasure hunt hosted by an
entertaining ‘Pirate’ guide.
