To celebrate the end of 2015,
members, family and friends came
together to join us in a festive
Christmas celebration at Wests City,
Newcastle CBD.
With the food flowing, the music
mellowing and the lovely company
of members, family and friends, it
was a much enjoyed occasion. It
was also a great opportunity for
CEO Max Bosotti to thank our much
appreciated volunteers for their hard
work and contributions to ParaQuad
throughout the year.
northern region update
Last year the ParaQuad
Newcastle Branch welcomed
qualified Yoga Instructor Brooke
Elliston who ran two ‘Adaptive
Yoga Come and Try Days’. As a
result of the popularity of these
Yoga classes, a new Adaptive
Yoga program is set to hit
Newcastle in March.
The program has only ever
been offered at Royal Rehab in
Ryde so we are quite excited
about the commencement of
this program. Yoga is fantastic
for increasing strength, flexibility,
physical relaxation and can aid
in reducing spasticity as well as
better management of chronic
pain, stress and overall enhanced
general wellbeing.
Brooke, the instructor, has been
practicing and teaching yoga for a
number of years and has additional
training in specialised neurological
impairment and yoga therapy.
Brooke says, ‘It is great practice,
regardless of your level of ability —
all poses are adapted to meet the
needs of the individual’.
The classes will take place on a
regular weekly basis each Monday
afternoon.

Time:

Disability inclusion is at the
centre of plans that Newcastle City
Council recently sought community
input for.
A draft Access
& Inclusion Plan
was on public
display, with the
aim of giving the
community a
chance to have
their say on
Council’s access
developments
and
improvements.
Newcastle
Council say the
draft strategy and
actions in the
plan will provide
a framework for Council over
the next four years to undertake
projects and programs which
make for a more accessible
community.
Staff from
the Council’s
Community
Planning team
offered community
drop-in sessions
in branch libraries
and a community
workshop as part
of the consultation
process.
