S.D.G. Choir - La Trobe Eisteddfod
In S.D.G. Choir rehearsals, Term 3 was largely
spent rehearsing repertoire in preparation for our
performance at the La Trobe Valley Eisteddfod
on Tuesday, 30th August. The choir performed in
two sections, the most challenging piece being
a three part arrangement of 'Dona Nobis', and
the most fun was a comedic canon about Coffee
called ‘Java Jazz’. We competed in two sections,
and achieved second place in both, only being
1 ½ points off a first place in the last section. The
adjudicator commended S.D.G. Choir on their
balanced and blended sound, and excellent
intonation.

Middle School Showcase
The first ‘Middle School Showcase’ was held
on Wednesday, 14th September. The evening
consisted of performances from Year 7 and 8
Advanced Music classes, the Year 6 Massed Choir,
5P Band Program, ‘Happy Feet’, S.D.G. Choir,
Year 7 Drama class and the newly formed HCC
Junior Band. It was a fantastic night of wonderful
entertainment and it was a valuable experience
for students to perform to the school community.
Junior Hillcrest Band
The Junior Hillcrest Band commenced this term
and students are enjoying being part of this
band, and improving their sight reading and
musicology skills as a whole.
Senior Drama
The Year 9 Performance Project students have
been exploring different styles and genres of
Theatre. They have particularly loved doing
Melodrama exploring the exaggerated emotions
and stock characters of the villain, hero and
damsel in distress. They are currently working
on Elizabethan Theatrical conventions creating
videos aptly named, ‘Shakespeare in 60 seconds’.
The Year 10 students have been growing their
spontaneity and acting skills in Improvisation
now exploring popular formats for improvising
such as ‘Thank God you’re here’ and ‘Whose Line
is it anyway?’ The students will showcase their
skills as they stage and present a series of ‘Thank
God you’re here’ episodes in the Performing Arts
Theatre during lunchtimes in Term 4.
VCE Drama – SoloWorkshop
The Year 12 VCE Drama students attended a Solo
Workshop at the Malthouse Theatre on the 9th
August. The Workshop was aimed at helping
the students prepare for their Solo Performance
Exams, which are scheduled for Friday, 7th
October. The students were able to workshop
various devising methods and watch and discuss
a professional actor’s performance of a VCE
prescribed Solo Structure.
VCAA Group Performance Exams
Hillcrest will be hosting the VCAA VCE Group
Performance Exams in our Studios on Tuesday,
4th October (first day of Term 4). We wish the 5
talented VCE Hillcrest students all the very best
as they prepare for this up and coming exam
