This year was our first, week long, literature

festival and thanks to the DC Team it was

extremely successful. We hope the students

and staff involved enjoyed theworkshops they

had with Corinne Fenton, Claire Saxby and

George Ivanoff. Our Senior School students

were treated to Abe Nouk, an incredibly

vibrant and inspiring Slam Poet.

He engaged and encouraged us to not

treat life as a fairy tale but have faith to

believe that what you dream can become a

reality. His workshops challenged student

perspective, encouraging them to use various

sentence starters in order to produce thought

provoking letters to their younger and future

selves. His focus on life, faith and literacy were

visible and clear.

Year 6 and 8 were in hysterics from the very

first minute with Stig Wemyss (most loved

narrator of Bolinda Audio Books) performed

his wildly entertaining; ‘Stig! live @ the

library’. The students were enthralled by his

every word and they amazed us with their

confidence to be involved in the presentation.

His rendition of ‘Chubby Bubby’ had students

in stitches and the hour he was with us was

not long enough.

The Performing Arts Centre came to life for

our spectacular primary parades on Monday

and Friday. Thank you to parents and students

for this wonderful display of creativity

as the costumes were simply amazing. It

was so clear from our multiple winners

listed below that judging was extremely

difficult. Junior School were treated to a

literary extravaganza with a performance

called “Fair Dinkum” where the themes of

hope and optimism were shared.

Middle School had the RALFF awards

which were judged by local council

member and parent at Hillcrest Christian

College, Rosalie Crestani. This week we

have had morning tea for all the prize

winners where our well-deserved winners

each received a cupcake, cordial and

selected a scholastic book prize.

Many thanks to everyone who has

supported us in getting the Inaugural

Hillcrest Christian College Book Week

Festival off the ground. Many timetable

changes have been facilitated, room

swaps negotiated and the successful

juggling of classes has accommodated

the many authors and events we have

scheduled.We

hope you have enjoyed this

special week of festivities and welcome

constructive feedback for future event

planning.
