of Term 2 was a very successful evening
with the Year 2 students showcasing
their talent along with many children
from Year 3-4 who took the opportunity
to take to the stage and perform a solo.

23rd West Gippsland Music & Drama
Eisteddfod
The members of the Middle and
Senior Strings Orchestra performed on
Thursday, 4th August at the 23rd West
Gippsland Music & Drama Eisteddfod,
held at the Warragul Arts Centre.
The students played their piece
beautifully to a captive audience which
consisted of fellow musicians, teachers,
judges and parents alike.
‘Beat the Drum’ Recital
On Thursday, 11th August, parents,
friends and staff were thrilled to witness
9 of the College’s drum students ranging
from Junior to Senior school perform in
the ‘Beat the Drum’ Recital.
Junior School Music
Students in Year 2 – 4 are currently
working hard on their production of
'Pirates of the Curry Bean' which will
take place in the Performing Arts Theatre
in Term 4 on Thursday 20th and Friday
21st October. There is a cast of about 50
children who will be acting, singing and
dancing. All children not in the cast will
be involved in performing in the show in
the chorus.
The Junior School Choir performed
‘Joshua Fought The Battle of Jericho’ at
the Term 3 service. They did an amazing
job and really added something special
to the occasion. The choir also competed
in the Primary School Choir section of
the Eisteddfod by the Bay in Moorabbin,
along with five other school choirs. They
performed the lovely Australian folk song
'Let Go The Long White Sails' along with
'Joshua'. The students gave an amazing
performance and were rewarded with a
“highly commended”.
TheYear 2 StringProgram is continuing to
blossom and become a real strength for
the College. Our String Recital at the end
ANZCA & AMEB Exams
On 16th August, 7 guitar students from
the instrumental program participated
in ANZCA (Australia & New Zealand
Cultural Arts Limited) exams and received
excellent results. In Term 4, piano, strings
and woodwind students will be sitting
their AMEB (Australian Music Examination
Board) exams.
Combined Music Camp
On Friday 26th through Sunday 28th
August, members of the Hillcrest Band,
Middle and Senior School Strings
Orchestra and S.D.G. Choir travelled to
Phillip Island to join in with Newhaven
College’s annual Music Camp at the Phillip
Island Adventure Resort.
The weekend consisted of many
workshops and rehearsals with a range
of expert tutors from Scotch College,
MacRobertson Girls High School and St
Catherine’s School, Toorak. All students
had a wonderful time developing their
musical gifts, socializing with other fellow
music lovers, and participating in fun
evenings of music trivia challenges, and
talent shows items.
