Building Community

A number of events were held to strengthen community

within the College. Following the Term 3 Service about

reaching out to our world, students ‘Lived Simply for a Day’

by eating simple food, using water thoughtfully and turning

off screens. On this day they brought a gold coin donation

to support the work of International Needs Australia, a

Christian aid and development agency. In preparation,

Year 4 students participated in a workshop to learn about

ways we can work with others to fight against poverty and

injustice. They then visited each of the classes to share what

they had learned.

A ‘What’s Happening at School’ morning was held to give

parents and carers the opportunity to learn more about

what is happening in classrooms across the Junior School.

Junior School parents were surveyed to see which of three

topics they would most like to hear about and results

showed a clear preference for a session on the use of hands

on materials in Mathematics.

The session was led by Mrs Wiggs, the Junior School

Mathematics FacultyCoordinator. MrMichael Swanborough,

the Head of Senior School and Dr Gregg Weaver, the Head

of College also contributed. After being involved in some

junior/

hands on activities themselves, parents and carers visited

classrooms for the first 15 minutes of the day to see the use

of hands on materials in a Mathematics lesson.

The College partnered with the City of Casey and Casey City

Church to hold a Dad’s and Mentor’s Date Night. This was

hugely popular and saw children spending quality time with

Dads or male mentors playing games and having dinner.

The Book Week parades were a real celebration of fun and

reading. The standard of book character costumes made the

job of awarding prizes for the most unique, most colourful

and most authentic costume very difficult for our judges.

Year 3 students attended their first school camp at ADANAC

in Yarra Junction. They experienced living in community

through shared bunkrooms, meals and activities. They

developed personal and physical skills through outdoor

learning experiences: canoeing, flying fox, low ropes course,

archery and camp cooking.
