Insurance in super:
recovering consumer and stakeholder confidence
Central Room A, Ground Floor
Several reviews are under way, initiated by regulators, industry and a Senate enquiry, all concerning
a lack of confidence around life insurance in super. In the weeks prior to the ASFA Conference, a
number of important announcements and statements will have been made.
There has been considerable media coverage over the past year raising product design concerns as
some funds have moved to change solution design to make life insurance more sustainable. In the
process, public confidence in the benefits of life insurance has diminished. Rightly or wrongly, the
public perception is that prices have risen, eligibility has been tightened and benefits have reduced.
A Code of Practice has been launched affecting retail life insurers, and the superannuation industry
must now develop and launch its own code of practice. Industry leaders are absolutely convinced we
must respond to address the issues and concerns.
A group of expert practitioners will discuss the processes to be followed and issues that will have to be
addressed over the coming year.
In the second part of this session, the focus will switch to health. Delegates will be shown how to
develop your own ‘brain gym’ with Paul Taylor, a former British Naval Officer and exercise physiologist
and nutritionist. Paul has developed a holistic approach to health and wellbeing that integrates
physical and mental analysis, and will help you understand how behavioural change improves general
health and wellbeing. Your health is your most important asset – understand how you and your
members can keep it.
