MENTAL HEALTH IS EVERYONE’S BUSINESS:
YOUNG AND OLD
The Glen, in conjunction with over 12 other supporting
organisations, held its first major Mental Health Week event on
Friday 7 October 2016.
The event was a huge success with over 500 people in
attendance. Members of the community showed their
support, including from both state and federal Government
representatives
and
local
businesses
including
Bunnings Warehouse.
The family-friendly event was held at The Glen and promoted
mental health awareness and education for all.
Joe Coyte, CEO, said, “The Glen is really keen to help get the
message out to the community about how mental health issues
are everyone’s business and there is plenty of support and
techniques to make sure we are all healthy.”
The day included dance performances by The Glen boys and
the Mingaletta Dance and Didge Group, tours of The Glen and a
free BBQ lunch for all guests.
Attendees played each other in giant chess games with
The Glen and Bungree facing off in a shuffleboard competition
refereed by Steve Mortimer.
The Kids Zone was jam-packed with activities including a
jumping castle, mechanical surfboard, face painting, balloon
animals, Koori artefacts, boomerang throwing, a Koori art
workshop, NRL footy clinic and carnival games, thanks to
Bunnings Warehouse.
The success of the day was thanks to the entire organisation,
volunteers, ambassadors, businesses and media supporting
this event.
Joe said, “It was great to see so many local community
organisations supporting this event. We heard many people
starting conversations about mental health, which is what this
day was all about.”
