THE ART HOUSE
NAISDA recently took part in the official
opening of The Art House at Wyong and
was one of the first to stage a show at the
new venue.
The Art House is the Central Coast’s
newest cultural attraction and performing
arts venue and NAISDA was privileged
to open the centre with their NAIDOC
Week performances.
WIRAYI (NOW)
, NAISDA’s NAIDOC Week
Program of workshops, exhibitions and
performances for local schools and
the Central Coast community, took
place at The Art House from 29 June to
1 July 2016.
The season included a special
one-off Community Night on Thursday
30 June, sponsored by Darkinjung Local
Aboriginal Land Council.
The Community Night was a tremendous
success, giving Darkinjung’s members an
opportunity to witness the unique
experience while enjoying a great night out.
GARABARRA NGURRA CAMP
In August, NAISDA played host to the
annual Garabarra Ngurra Dance camp,
which saw over 30 young Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander high school
students from across NSW come
together on Darkinjung country to dance
and learn from some of NAISDA’s leading
dance artists.
Garabarra Ngurra also saw the inaugural
Joanne Harris Scholarship for Talent
Identification being granted to Cleopatra
Pryce from Queensland.
CIRCLE OF CULTURES
As we head toward the end of 2016,
NAISDA is busily preparing for
Circle of Cultures – a program of
significant cultural and artistic events in
partnership with Carriageworks Sydney,
which will take place in November and
December 2016.
The Circle of Cultures season will
transform Carriageworks across three
spaces to showcase the many sides
of NAISDA and reconnect with cultural
communities who have given so much to
NAISDA over 40 years.
The season will include Naya Wa Yugali –
WeDance,aphotographicandmultimedia
exhibition showcasing NAISDA’s past,
present and future, Speaking Countries,
a series of conversations, sharing of
songs and dances between cultural
communities and NAISDA’s main stage
contemporary works, From Sand to Stage
(Past, Present, and Future).
