CENTRAL COAST
REGIONAL SNAPSHOT
2016
NorthConnex Project
The NorthConnex Project is included in the Building Infrastructure
Premier’s Priority and will provide a positive impact on the Central
Coast region.
NorthConnex is a nine kilometre tunnel that will link the M1
Pacific Motorway at Wahroonga to the Hills M2 Motorway at
West Pennant Hills, removing around 5,000 trucks off Pennant
Hills Road.
The project is expected to be completed in 2019 and will
remove all traffic lights between Newcastle and Melbourne
leading to an improvement in the efficient movement of state
and national freight and more reliable trips for people businesses
and freight. There is expected to be a saving of up to 15
minutes of travel time on a trip between the Central Coast and
Sydney which would in turn improve the attraction of the Central
Coast to visitors.
Export Industries
Exports by industry are sales of goods and services to non-
resident households, businesses and other organisations,
outside the Central Coast NSW boundaries.
An analysis of the total exports by industry sectors in
Central Coast NSW in 2014/15 shows the three largest
industries were:
• Manufacturing
($1,211 million or 43.3%)
• Accommodation and Food Services
($374 million or 13.4%)
• Information Media and Telecommunications
($271 million or 9.7%)
In combination these three industries accounted for $1856 million
in total or 66.4% of the total exports by total industry in
Central Coast NSW.
In comparison, the same 3 industries in New South Wales accounted
for 17.6% in Manufacturing; 2.3% in Accommodation and Food
Services; and 7.3% in Information Media and Telecommunications.
