Population Growth
The population of the region is in the order of 333,000, with an
annual growth rate of approximately 2,300 people (approx. 0.7%).
(Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2016). Population growth has
slowed in the past four years from a high of 1.9% growth in 2008
to a current population growth rate of 0.7%.
The Central Coast Regional Plan 2036 (Department of Planning
& Environment, 2016), states that the region population is
anticipated to grow by 75,500 to approximately 415,050 people
in the next twenty years, and it will require the construction of
around 41,500 new residences to accommodate this growth. In
addition, the plan indicates that additional commercial, industrial
and retail space will be required to provide approximately
24,674 additional jobs in the next twenty years.
