From the President

The end of the year is nearly upon us and is finishing with a flurry of

activity. A VSCC display has been organized for the Celebration of the

Motorcar at the Cottesloe Civic Centre on the 27th November. The

Vintage Stampede is on the same day at Barbagallo Raceway and the

30th Anniversary Dinner, Awards Night and General Meeting is on

the 5th of December.

The Annual General Meeting (see minutes on the next page) has

been conducted and a new Management Committee elected. It is very

pleasing to note all twelve members who served on the 2016

Committee are continuing in 2017.

Mark Jones, the Club Librarian, has worked hard this year to maintain the collection and is

constantly adding new books and magazines. A recent addition is a book “Red Dirt Racers”

written by Graeme Cocks. It is the story of a hundred years of Motor Sport at Australia’s oldest

surviving motor racing track, Lake Perkolilli. It’s a great read and I recommend it to you.

At our November General Meeting Mike Broughton made an offer to pay for members’

name tags mounted on lanyards and we thank him for his generosity. If you would like one

of these talk to our Regalia Manager, Mike Barnes, and he will organize one for you.

One of the highlights of 2016, of which there are many, has been the VSCC guest speaker

program organized by Len Kidd. At our November meeting Mark Duder brought along his

Alpine A110 and talked about the history of the car. Mark described the restoration and

specifications of the car but, more interesting for me, was Mark’s personal competition

history. His anecdotes about dirt rallying and his participation in Targa Tasmania and

Classic Adelaide revealed a lot about his talents and enthusiasm for Motor Sport.

I think this is enough from me this month. I look forward to meeting up with you at the

Stampede or over a glass of wine at the 30th Anniversary Dinner.

Safe Driving.

Rob Ozanne

Red Dust Racers Shortlisted for

Publication of the Year by IHMA

Graeme Cocks’ book,

Red Dust Racers

, has been

shortlisted by International Historic Motoring Awards

for its Publication of the Year. The short list comprises

the best eight Historic Motoring books world wide,

which puts Graeme’s book in superlative company.

VSCC member Graeme spent 20 years researching

this book and to have it recognised by the world’s

leading historic motoring group is a great honour.
